Untitled - Nautical Shell
Completed in October, 2009, this Chapel Hill window was commissioned to match elements in the master bath which included a "woven" tile floor, tiny copper tiles, and the nautilus shell carved into the Italian Zodiac vanity. (Cherry frame by Jo Boobas.)

Duke Divinity - Resurrection Trees, 2009
Duke Divinity 2, Duke Divinity Administrative Offices located in Durham's Tobacco campus, 2009. Theme was "Resurrection", embodying new growth as the Divinity School moved it's offices and combined several departments into one to better facilitate the needs of staff, students and clergy.

Bazan Rex Butterfly
Lots going on here... these are sidelites on either side of a beautiful front door across from Duke campus in Durham. The owner of the home is a native of New Orleans, thus the abstract Oak trees, fleur de lis and the Rex crown in the corner. The butterfly is taken from one of the first Rex Party invitations from early 1900's where the wings folded out to give date and details of the evening's Mardi Gras festivities. We also scattered glass nuggets throughout the trunks, leaves and background of the panels in reference to the beads thrown at party guests. This was a fun project to work on!

Blue Truck
I have a secret love of old rusty trucks, particularly pre-1950's. When I found this large old window frame with it's crackling paint and thick construction, I knew it was the perfect time to put my favorite blue truck in glass. Nestled in a field of wildflowers, this truck awaits a new home as it sits forever in the summer sun. Imagine where this truck has been, and what it has seen.

Untitled - birch trees
Commissioned in 2005 for a couple in Pittsboro, their amazing property spanned many acres of wooded land. This panel was framed into the garden tub window that overlooked grazing deer in the morning, and a beautiful sunset through the trees at night.

Old Glory
The lawyer that found me at the Eno Festival in 2003 wanted a large American Flag for his offices in New York. He was visiting friends here in NC and asked if I could ship it to him. I was happy to send him this large glass flag, knowing it would hang proudly in our recently wounded city.

Untitled - large sun
My first large window, 2002. This was a labor of love, I learned a lot on this project. My friend, Jo Boobas, did a wonderful dark cherry frame for this, but hard to see in the backlit image.
-
Untitled
This is one of the first abstract commissioned pieces I did. It was made to hang in an interior pass-thru space where my customer wanted to hide the clutter in her office.

Woman, 2004
Abstract Woman, 2004. This is the first female figure I did and I liked it so much I kept it and had it framed in curly maple by my friend, Jo Boobas.

Selig Tulips
There's a lot going on in this window. It was done for an architect as a gift for his wife. Lemon was her maiden name, thus the lemon tree. Tulips because they liked to garden. Arched because he designed his house with that shape arch in every entryway. "SELIG" is carved into the solder lines in the bark of the tree. And it was believed that their grandmother had come back as a cardinal bird to watch over them. Like I said, a lot going on, and she loved it!

Free Dancers
I did this piece for a private show at The Mad Hatter restaurant in Durham. The show was a success and although this didn't sell that run, it did sell on Christmas Eve at Francesca's on 9th Street. I was sad to see it go, if truth be told. It was one of my favorites!
-
Kodo
I was in an all-girl marching band from 10-20 years-old. Some of my best days were spent with those young women. This piece represents the round drum-head and the power of expression. I was always told, if you're going to make a mistake, make it LOUD!! (This piece currently hangs with friends in Malibu, CA.)

621 Dock Street
My friends in Wilmington entrusted me with the entrance to their home. One more reason I love them; they have always made me feel like part of the family.

red grn sun web lg.jpg
I've done this design for several people now, each with their own version of color. This particular piece was given as a gift to some friends for their commitment ceremony. I hope it brings the red, green and yellow to the rest of their blissful rainbow of love. Awwww, love! : )

Dukek Health Raleigh Hospital
This was commissioned to be the window in the chapel at Duke Health Raleigh Hospital's ICU ward. There were no windows in that room, so this is actually installed in a light box. They wanted it to be non-denominational so that anyone who needed a moment of peace could come to the room for a moment of peace without regard to their religion. Completed in roughly 2006, I recently learned that the chapel was turned into an office and the window was taken to another location, but I can't find where it went. I hope someone is loving it.

Hats
I created these for The Eno Festival. They were fun to make, with lots of whimsical colors. I sold some and kept a few because they made me smile. The rest were donated to the 2010 Independent Animal Rescue's Painted Chair silent auction. (Roughly 10" x 14" each)

Madalena abstract
This commission came from a pair of sisters who were a joy to work with. They have a wonderful old home that needed a stained glass window to brighten up their first floor stair landing. They brought me a Kleenex box that had the colors they wanted, and the race was on! A few discontinued samples aside, we made it all work and you can hear their delight on the "customer comments" link on this site. Thanks, girls, it was a fun project!

Neal - Father and Sons
Believe it or not, this is a father and his two sons. Don't see it?? He wanted an abstract design for his front door with privacy from the busy residential street he had moved to, but clear textures and colors that would let in light. Here's what you're looking at... The curved bottom structure is "the world", and the three clear pillars with large blocks of color are the father and his two sons (see they are at 3 different heights?)... so, now you can see it's the three of them tackling the world together. See it? No? Well, that's why they call it art.

Untitled sun commission
Mr. and Mrs. Jansen, a lovely couple, commissioned me to create this panel for an interior window in their bathroom when they built out their sunroom. The panel provided color, art, and privacy from the adjoining room. The red border is brilliant glass that I had to pry out of the hands of a friend who had it in storage. Thank you, Cristal!

Monet Love
Love blossomed at a Monet exhibit. I combined Monet's self portait with one of the ladies he painted many times and placed them in a Normandy beach scene with flowers. I'm proud of this one, you just can't see the french crackle glass that I used in the faces to simulate old cracked paint. Hope you like it.

Harper's Ferry
This project was a wedding gift for a couple who had hiked the Appelachian Trail, and the groom proposed at Harper's Ferry Overlook (etched on the "sign") This is a representation of the actual view from that spot. Good luck to the new couple, I hope they explore many beautiful trails together.
-
Plum Tree
There is an artist I was trying to emulate with this panel, but I can't find her art again to give her credit. Suffice it to say, this and one other panel reflect an appreciation of a great artist's style. I hope I did her justice in glass.

Untitled Jewel Sun
Jewel toned stained glass textures shimmer and glow in sunlight, taking you away to a relaxing afternoon of color. Size: 28-1/4" x 24"
-
Wildfire
Multi-color abstract, unframed. These rich colors in greens, purples, golds and clear textures create a whimsical effect where sunlight shimmers and sparkles. Custom framing is available; cost to be determined based on materials and labor involved. 30-1/2" diameter.
-
Warrior's Dream
Powerful reds and deep blues send the spirits of warriors off to enlightened peace. I put this panel together after my grandmother died, and to me it was a silent loving send off to a new world. I loved her dearly. 24-1/2" x 28-3/4" unframed.

Blue-Berry Tree
This turn of the century frame has such character, with old rusty hinges and a chewed corner from some kind of weather or other damage. I love finding unique frames like these to work with, and it's why I chose to do such an abstract motif with it. Using German hand-rolled Youghiougheny glass and mirror, I took my inspiration from an oil painting I found that had these circular "leaves" in a very colorful tree. If imitation is the highest form of flattery, then I hope I have done justice to the unknown artist whose work I found so playful and intriguing.

Dempsey Beach Scene
This piece was commissioned by a lovely couple with a wonderful old mid-1800's farmhouse that they are reinventing. The old weighted window casing was removed from an exterior wall where renovations were taking place. We opened the casing, designed the scene based on their pink paint swatch for the new bathroom space, created the stained glass design in 12 separate panels and reinstalled the completed windows back into the casing. The irridescent glass used for the seashells complimented the bright new space. The Dempseys were a joy to work with, and I am looking forward to their next project of a cow scene for the new living room.

Sun Flash
In this salvaged white window frame the sun shines throughout the day and night. Made up of many blue shades of custom mixed flash glass, a rough-rolled green, and German antique, this sun can calm as well as inspire. (~22" x 24")
-
Karma Attack
After an argument with my mother, I poured my angst into my art, and came up with this jumble of blue and purple shards, peaceful white circles, and an embryonic egg sack of our true beginnings. Harsh, confusing, and full of the rainbow of emotions we concern ourselves with when we love someone and still seem to lock horns on occasion, this panel is my favorite mess. (Size ~31 x 31)
-
Spring Flowers
Spring flowers are blooming inside this salvaged window frame from the Trinity Park restoration district in downtown Durham.
-
Seashells
These seashells are hanging in Durham on the land of the Umstead family. The seeded background glass will pick up sunlight like sparkles on the water. Set in a reclaimed window frame, this sturdy panel will remind you of summer even when it's cold outside. (Size 32" x 24")
-
Women with Flowers
I created this in 2006, and have loved it for a long time. Whimsical, this image of two women playing in a field of flowers is one of the last abstract pieces I did before I began using salvaged window frames and designing with more concrete forms. (Size ~28 x 12)

Dragonfly on Daisy
Sometimes neat things just happen... this dragonfly happened to land on one of my glass flowers. Cool!
